Identification Tips:

  1. Length: 40 inches
  2. Large, long-necked waterbird with short legs and a short duck-like bill
  3. Long neck held in distinctive "S" curve at rest

Adult:

  1. Orange bill with black base, lores and knob above bill
  2. Black legs and feet
  3. Entirely white plumage
  4. Fluffy back feathers
  5. Female has smaller bill knob
  6. Sexes similar

Similar species:

Adult easily separated from other swans and geese by its orange bill and black knob above bill.
